A Message From Our Superintendent

On behalf of the Board of Education and the West Covina Unified School District, welcome to the 2017- 2018 school year. Our teachers, staff, and administrators are dedicated to the highest levels of academic success for our students. We continue to invest in providing an environment for their social/emotional well-being. The District and its stakeholders have developed and implemented our District Strategic Plan and Local Control Accountability Plan and I encourage you to view these plans on our website.

We have now moved into our second year of our Reading Initiative which includes the distribution of iPads to all K-1 students and laptop computers to all students enrolled 2-4. In our continued commitment to embracing technology in the 21st Century, we are also moving to provide a one to one device to all students through the 8th grade. The District's Dual Immersion Spanish program now includes TK through 2nd grade at both Monte Vista and Orangewood Elementary where our young students are becoming both bilingual and biliterate. We are also thrilled to announce that Cameron Elementary and Orangewood Elementary have now joined Edgewood High School in becoming an accredited International Baccalaureate Programme school. Edgewood Middle School hopes to become IB accredited later this spring which will provide one of the only K-12 IB continuums in the State. Across town, West Covina High School added the exclusive AP Capstone advanced seminar courses. Students who complete these courses, and earn successful scores on their AP exams, will receive an AP Capstone Diploma. We will be awarding these diplomas for the first time this spring! We are the only district in the San Gabriel Valley to offer this program.

In addition to these innovative programs, the School Board is happy to announce new college and career pathways, including; Robotics, Computer Science, Entertainment Arts, and Engineering. I am confident, that working together, we will prepare our students to enter the global workforce through the integration of technology, real-world applications, and rigorous instruction. At West Covina Unified, your child has a choice. I encourage you to explore the many opportunities that are available in our District.

The District appreciates your continued support. We are confident that your child will have a successful school year in the West Covina Unified School District.
