A Thank You from the West Covina Unified School District

On behalf of the Board and all of us at West Covina Unified School District, I would like to extend our deepest gratitude for investing in our school district, and the future of our students. Our students and teachers have been working hard to meet the challenges of the new State Standards and the demands of the 21st century. With your vote to pass Measure ES, we are now confident that we will be able to equip our schools with the facilities and upgrades that will match those efforts.

Your investment in our schools, and in our students, is an investment to our community.

Sincerely,

Charles D. Hinman, Ed.D.

A Message From Our Superintendent

Untitled Document On behalf of the Board of Education and the West Covina Unified School District, welcome to the 2016-2017 school year. Our teachers, staff, and administrators are dedicated to the highest levels of academic success for our students. We continue to invest in providing an environment for their social/emotional well-being. The District, and its stakeholders, have developed and implemented our District Strategic Plan and Local Control Accountability Plan; I encourage you to view these plans on our website.

A new Reading Initiative will include the distribution of personal laptop computers to all students enrolled K-3. The District’s Dual Immersion Spanish program will now include a TK class and several first grade classes. The success of the International Baccalaureate programme at Edgewood High School has inspired the district to seek additional authorizations – the IB Primary Years Programme at Cameron Elementary and Orangewood Elementary, as well as the IB Middle Years Programme for grades sixth through tenth at Edgewood Middle and Edgewood High School. Across town, West Covina High School will add the exclusive advanced seminar course, AP Capstone. This is a two year program that includes a seminar course and a research course. Students who complete these courses, and earn successful scores on their AP exams, will receive an AP Capstone Diploma. We are the only district in the San Gabriel Valley to offer this program.

In addition to these innovative programs, the School Board is happy to announce new college and career pathways, including; Robotics, Computer Science, Entertainment Arts, and Engineering. I am confident, that working together, we will prepare our students to enter the global workforce through the integration of technology, real-world applications, and rigorous instruction. At West Covina Unified, your child has a choice. I encourage you to explore the many opportunities that are available in our District.

The District appreciates your continued support. We are confident that your child will have a successful school year in the West Covina Unified School District.

Sincerely,

Charles D. Hinman, Ed.D.
