Essential Standards

The State of California has adopted content standards in each of the core curricular areas “to encourage the highest achievement of every student, by defining the knowledge, concepts, and skills that students should acquire at each grade level.”These standards establish high expectations for students and represent the skills and concepts taught at each grade level.  All grade level standards are taught at West Covina Unified School District and essential standards have been identified to reinforce consistent delivery of instruction while allowing for articulation of skills across grade levels and disciplines.

Essential are standards taught with greater emphasis.  All students are expected to master these essential standards in order to be successful in the next  grade level and their progress is monitored periodically utilizing a variety of assessments tools.
