West Covina students ages 8-13 are invited to participate in this year's Elks National Free Throw "Hoop Shot" Contest.  Hoop Shot is the largest of the many youth activities sponsored by Elks Lodges with over 3 million annual participants.  Local winners will advance to district, state and regional competitions.  There are six national champions named – one boy and one girl in each of the three categories: ages 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13. The winners each receive a trophy and their names are inscribed on a plaque at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts. Parents accompany contestants throughout the competition. The parents of finalists at the state, regional, and national levels attend the competition as guests of the Elks.

The local Hoop Shot competition will be held at Cameron Park Recreation Center (Small Gym) on November 21, 2009 from 12:30 to 6:30 P.M.  For additional information, please contact Willie Koskela at (626) 815-2560 or (626) 224-0698.  The West Covina Elks Lodge may be contacted at (626) 962-0113.
